You have the opportunity to order a Specialty License Plate for your vehicle to support the work of your favorite rescue or shelter. Fill out the form below to pre-order your plate, and once 1,000 plates have been ordered, production will begin.
A portion of every pre-ordered plate sold will support the rescue or shelter you designate on the registration form below.

What is the purpose of the specialty Tennessee RESCUE*ADOPT*LOVE vehicle license plate?
It is a specialty vehicle license plate created by Adopt a Golden Knoxville (“AGK”) to celebrate and promote Rescue and Adoption in Tennessee.
How much do I pay to reserve a license plate?
For the plate to be approved and become available, AGK is required by the State of Tennessee to obtain 1,000 pre-orders at a cost of $35.00 to reserve each license plate. The $35.00 will be applied to your total cost when you receive your plate from the State. An additional processing fee of $2.00 per plate is added to cover service charge and transaction fees incurred by AGK. You can pay using your credit card, PayPal or Venmo.
Does the State keep the entire $35.00 registration fee?
No, approximately half of the registration fee for every plate sold during the pre-order process will support the rescue or shelter you designate on the registration form.
What happens if AGK does not receive the minimum pre-order requirement?
If AGK does not receive the minimum pre-order requirement, your registration fee will be considered a DONATION to the rescue or shelter you designate on the registration form.
How will I know if AGK meets the minimum 1,000 pre-order requirement?
Be on the lookout for news about the status of the number of orders received and when we reach our goal of 1,000 on the AGK website, on social media, and in the Knoxville Golden Times Newsletter.
During the pre-order period, what happens to my existing license plate?
Your current license plate will remain in service until the State notifies you that the new specialty plate is ready for pickup.
When will I get my new plate?
Pre-orders will close once 1,000 registrations have been received. AGK will send the pre-order information to the State of Tennessee, which begins the 4-6 months production period. All pre-ordered plates will be sent to your County Court Clerk’s office. If all goes well, we anticipate that plates will be available mid-2027.
How will I know my plate is ready?
The State will notify you when your plate is ready for pick up at your County Court Clerk’s office. If you have renewed your vehicle license plate, you will receive a credit for any unused registration time. Your new Specialty License Plate will be valid for 12 months from the date you receive your plate.
What if my current plate needs to be renewed prior to receiving the Specialty License Plate?
Renew as normal and when your new plate is ready you will receive credit for any unused registration time.
Can I Personalize my Plate?
Not during the initial pre-order process. Once the first batch of plates is produced and you have received yours, you will have the option to personalize it at your next renewal.
Can I order for multiple vehicles?
Yes! As long as they are registered in Tennessee.
How are numbers being assigned?
Plates are numbered 0001-1001 and are being assigned numerically as orders are received.
Can I ask for a specific number?
Yes, if you would like a specific plate number between 100-1001, send an email to agknoxville2025@gmail.com with your name, address and email address and if the number is available it will be assigned to your plate. You will receive a confirming email.
How will I renew my new license plate in the future?
Just as with a standard license plate, renewals are handled through the State of Tennessee Department of Revenue. They will mail or email you a reminder to renew your tags at the appropriate time.
